What is Brain Based Therapy?
Brain Based Therapy (also referred to as BBT) is an all-natural neurological rehabilitation technique that utilizes the latest scientific information on neuro-plasticity and neuro-development to help restore people to their normal state of health. BBT can be also be termed as a hands-on, dynamic integration technique that is used to re-boot, restore, and reconnect proper brain function. In other words, it is designed to re-wire your brain which then enables your body to heal. BBT is not used to treat a particular disorder, disease or illness, but is rather an all-round and innovative approach that can be used to treat a variety of conditions. I as the medical director of MedWell, have seen significant improvement with patient’s general attention, memory and focus through BBT. Our team of multidisciplinary doctors will assess each patient based on their areas of expertise and discipline in order to qualify the patient for proper treatment and care plan.
This unique, safe, gentle, and amazingly powerful healing technique is used worldwide by many doctors to diagnose and help both the past and present emotional, physical, and chemical traumas that are responsible for poor neurological function and development.
How Does Brain Based Therapy Work?
BBT is generally a new holistic idea, but very effective. The concept is a very simple idea, though very complex in practice. It revolves around the neuroplasticity of the brain – its ability to continuously and therapeutically activate, and improve the functionality of some of its parts that may have not been firing correctly.
The brain is the computer that controls and coordinates all the body organs, tissues, activities, and functions. The health of your brain, therefore, reflects the exact emotional, physical, and bio-chemical state-of-health of all the other parts of your body. This means that if your brain fails to fire properly and as efficient as possible, there abound to arise different issues.
The signals from the rest of the human body are normally carried from the initial receptors of sight, touch, pressure sense, smell, temperature, and balance through the spinal nerve root on to the spinal cord. Through which, they are finally delivered to the lower part of the brain called Cerebellum. From the Cerebellum, the signals or impulses, including thought, are transmitted to the Brain Cortex where it provides an increase in the frequency of firing within the brain stem (medulla, pons, and mesencephalon). This is called “Brain Loop” or in some other terms, the Cerebellar-Rubro-Thalamo-cortical Ponto-medullary loop. This frequency helps keep the brain healthy and viable, and it is based on that information it receives, that the brain will develop a response.
When there’s a malfunction of the Cerebellum, the Cortex receives insufficient input and becomes incapable of effectively controlling the functions of the mesencephalon (a.k.a. midbrain) and brain stems. This results into a condition known as Trans neural Degeneration, characterized by over-firing, mis-firing, and imbalances in the Cranial nerve functions. It is exactly these malfunctions that eventually cause the prevalent chronic syndromes such as dizziness, problems with sleep, photophobia, and inner ear pressure, among others.
What Does BBT Aim to Do?
BBT explores a varying range of simple exercises to help restore or normalize the brain’s functionality by eliminating emotional, physical, and chemical stress, which is known to be very detrimental to the “brain loop”. The neurological examination used in BBT will reveal the aspect of the brain that is not firing properly. A variety of techniques including eye light therapy, functional adjusting, traditional chiropractic, and many more, are then used to stimulate those parts of the brain that have been affected to as to help normalize your nervous system and improve the body’s ability to heal.
Generally speaking, Brain Based Therapy aims to diagnose and manage pain syndromes, Fibromyalgia, light sensitivity, balance disorders, digestion problems, blurred vision, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, cognitive and behavioral problems, insomnia and fatigue, migraines, stroke recovery, numbness/paresthesia, general mental decline associated with aging, and many more.
